It is quite an expensive total station, but the leica builder 503 total station is a very high quality total station. The builder 503 is built to a very high standard, as you would expect from leica, it has lots of features which make all kinds of measurements quickly and accurately, and the bluetooth link up is very handy. So whilst it seems to cost a lot of money, its because you get much more for your money, and as it is a much more high quality total station, the builder 503 will last longer and be able to take more punishment on site than many other total stations.
It certainly pays to buy a more expensive, higher quality total station like the leica builder 503, if you have the money to spend. The builder 503 otal station can do much more than a cheaper total station, it is built to a better standard, so it is much more durable and robust, it is much more accurate and much quicker with its measurements, and it has more features, so it is capable of much more. It's definitely proved a false economy for me to buy a series of cheaper imports when I could have bought just a leica builder 503 and it probably would have lasted.
